Best bar in the world uses Cellum technology to sell tickets

Rockers like mobile payments – at least judging by ticket sales. Having joined MasterCard Mobile, Hungary’s leading mobile wallet app based on Cellum’s technology, A38 Ship now uses mobile payments to sell tickets, and visitors simply love it.

In 2012 Budapest’s legendary A38 ship was voted the Best Bar in the World by readers of Lonely Planet and Best Club in the World by Electronic Beats, the acclaimed electronic music & lifestyle website, finishing ahead of such clubs as Panorama Bar in Berlin and Fabric in London. Being one of the best when it comes to entertainment, concert ship and cultural center A38 has adopted Cellum’s innovative mobile payment technology to keep up with changing consumer demands.

Concertgoers can purchase tickets to A38 events using their smartphones as virtual wallets. In the club’s online ticket store, they only need to enter their phone number, there is no need to fill out lenghty checkout forms or disclose sensitive bank card information.

Mobile payments are basically used by our visitors between the ages 30-40 to purchase tickets,” said A38’s Creative Director Benedek Vasák. He pointed out that some of the most expensive tickets are paid for using MasterCard Mobile. This also meas that mobile payment transactions represent a greater average value than regular ticket purchases.

A38 revealed that its all-time mobile payments hit was the concert of Canadian alternative rock band Walk off the Earth, in March, 2013. The second peak was also for a rock band, Hungary’s favorite Tankcsapda, in April.

Mobile payments are now another great opportunity to make the life of our clients easier,” Vasák noted. “Just imagine: You are sitting on the tram, and with a couple of taps on your phone you can buy a concert ticket. You don’t even have to have a bank card on you,” he added.

A38 has integrated its online ticket store with MasterCard Mobile, the wallet app developed by Cellum. Registered users can simply visit the ticket store and select MasterCard Mobile as the desired payment method. Then, instead of the usual endless checkout form one would expect, they are simply asked to provide their phone number or app ID, and the payment request is sent to the phone via push notification. The app is fully secure, and users need to enter their mPIN – a personal password – before the transaction is carried out.
