Another year has flown by, feels like only the other day we were writing the round up for 2017. Last Year we spoke about how the “mobile payments revolution” wasn’t going to happen overnight. 2018 has followed that statement with continued focus on expanding our services and growing the user base.
In January we confirmed a strategic Fintech co-operation and investment deal with Telkom Indonesia Group, Indonesia’s No.1 ICT corporate group. Indonesia is the largest economy in Southeast Asia. With the increased capital we became financially stronger and let us keep up with our latest product development and expansion plans
In the spring we exhibited at the 2018 IoT Asia conference in Singapore and sponsored the 2018 Telkom Hackathon, a high-profile digital business application development competition in Indonesia. As Asia is a key region in technology and payments, it was a fantastic opportunity to meeting local and international industry professionals as well as encouraging a new generation of digital entrepreneurs.
In June we again certified PCI DSS compliant, with the topic of data security in the spotlight for 2018 it is important for us to continuously meet the rigorous security requirements set by the global card scheme companies. As a Level 1 service provider, we offer the strongest security in mobile payments. As a Europe-based company, we also comply with the EU’s data protection law (GDPR), which as of now is the strictest such regulation in the world.
We also announced new upgrades to our SIM management platform for mobile network operators in June, enabling them to service “Internet of Things” devices regardless of the manufacturer.
Contactless payments at some of Hungary’s largest festivals just got a major upgrade. Using Festipay’s new wristbands, which serve as a combined entry ticket and payment device, and Cellum’s mobile payment software add-on, the official apps of VOLT, Balaton Sound and Sziget Festival offered festival goers a faster, easier and more convenient way to top up their Festipay balance. In these festivals one third of all top-up transactions were made using our mobile payment solution.
In September we signed a deal with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu LLC , one of the largest professional services firms in Japan. The agreement aims to introduce mobile payments using QR codes in the country. Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu LLC will offer our QR code based solutions to their business partners.
In November Erste MobilePay, Erste Bank Hungary’s mobile wallet got a fresh new look and expanded functionality with the help of Cellum. The renewed wallet is faster, simpler and easier to use. The new release is also a major feature update, providing new capabilities, such as the storage of loyalty cards.
